MANALAPAN — Municipal officials will seek grants from the state Department of Transportation to fund infrastructure repairs in 2016.
Speaking at the Sept. 30 meeting of the Manalapan Township Committee, James Winckowski of CME Associates, the township’s engineering firm, said applications will be filed with the DOT.
Grants will be sought for improvements on Taylors Mills Road between Route 9 and the Marlboro border, and for sidewalk repairs at various locations in the municipality, according to Winckowski.
Committee members passed a resolution authorizing an application for the DOT grants to be filed.
At an earlier meeting, committee members voted to authorize CME Associates to perform a preliminary environmental assessment report for a parcel known as the Byk property. The tract totals 2.13 acres.
According to a resolution, the committee wants to acquire the Byk property at 400 Main St. in the Tennent section of Manalapan. In accordance with New Jersey Green Acres program rules, a preliminary environmental assessment is necessary to identify potentially contaminated areas on the site. CME Associates will be paid $5,250 for its work.
Committee members addressed an ongoing issue in the community by establishing liens against properties that have not been maintained by their owners. When a maintenance issue becomes a safety concern, the administration dispatches Department of Public Works employees to perform the work and then places a lien on the property.
At three recent meetings, the committee has established the following liens: 35 Birmingham Drive, $163.74, grass maintenance, and $109.16, grass maintenance; 25 Terence Drive, $248.32, grass and shrub maintenance; 36 Heather Drive, $163.74, grass maintenance; 2 Short Oaks Court, $79.37, grass maintenance; 8 Short Oaks Court, $79.37, grass maintenance.
And, 6 Terence Drive, $377.22, secure pool with fencing, and $178.74, grass maintenance; 4 King Court, $163.74, grass maintenance; 12 Birmingham Drive, $357.62, grass maintenance; 7 Pinetree Lane, $158.74, grass maintenance; 18 Forest Drive, $245.61, grass maintenance; 52 Union Hill Road, $66.87, grass maintenance; 100 Wilson Ave., $178.74, grass maintenance; 35 Newport Drive, $54.58, grass maintenance; 24 Sutton Drive, $104.06, grass maintenance; 5 Hapenny Drive, $178.74, grass maintenance; and 262 Smithburg Road, $103.12, grass maintenance.
