Sampson named to state committee

Freehold Regional High School District Superintendent of Schools Charles Sampson was recently appointed to the New Jersey Department of Education’s Common Core Standards Review Committee, according to a press release from the district.

The review committee was formed following Gov. Chris Christie’s call to rethink the Common Core State Standards for New Jersey.

The Standards Review Committee will review the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards in English language arts and mathematics to raise standards and ensure they are New Jersey based, according to the press release.

This committee will monitor progress, ensure alignment across grade levels and subjects, and make final recommendations to the state Board of Education.

“Being selected for the Standards Review Committee is an honor and I am proud to provide the Freehold Regional High School District’s voice at the table for discussions on Common Core standards,” Sampson said of his appointment.

Sampson also serves as the president of the Garden State Coalition of Schools, a network of approximately 100 high performing New Jersey school districts dedicated to quality education for all, according to the press release.
