SOUTH BRUNSWICK — An enthusiastic crowd recently joined together for the “Circle of Life” recognition event.
Honorees Karen Scalera and Arthur Roedel were among those who also remembered Muriel Leonard and Mike Ketofsky during the Taste of Cultures Reception that was held at the South Brunswick Senior Center on Sept. 26.
Guests enjoyed food from area restaurants including Sens Asian Cuisine, Rocky Hill Inn, Stolzfus’ Poultry, PF Chang’s, Joe’s Deli and Vinny’s Italian.
International entertainment began with bagpipers from the Middlesex County Police Department’s Bagpipers and Drum Corp, followed by Native American flute and drums, a program at the South Brunswick Library lead by Pat Kay, and an instrumental trio from the Ketofsky family.
A Bollywood Indian dance by Tirath Kairon was followed by instruments and songs from around the world provided by Claudio Mir, a local artist and resident of Kendall Park.
The evening celebrated the memories of Mike Ketofsky and Muriel Leonard who were recognized for their work with the Aging in Place Partnership (AIPP) and their lifetime of service to South Brunswick.
Also honored were Arthur Roedel and Karen Scalera, who both play important roles with the AIPP organization in the township. Each was recognized with framed certificates and will have a tree planted within the township with plaques identifying their services.
Also recognized were the incredible number of volunteers who have made it possible for AIPP to grow as a model artcentered, age-friendly “Livable Community” as part of the International World Health Organization (WHO) age-friendly Livable Community Initiative.
In addition, in honor of September being National Senior Center Month, the first AIPP Partner Award was presented to the South Brunswick Senior Center, which, in 2008, became the first official AIPPartner. Walter Mulyk, president of the Senior Center Advisory Council, accepted the award.
