HILLSBOROUGH: Burchette, Suraci prudently watch township’s expenses, writer says

To the editor:
I am writing this letter to commend Deputy Mayor Greg Burchette and Committeeman Carl Suraci for their prudent management of the town’s finances.
The 2015 municipal budget for the fifth year in a row came in under the 2 percent levy cap mandated by state law. Even though there are certain allowable exceptions to the levy cap, Hillsborough came underneath the cap without allowing those exceptions. Thus, Hillsborough truly adheres to the 2 percent cap.
By introducing a budget under the 2 percent cap, Hillsborough Township has been rewarded with an increased bond rating of AA++ by Standard & Poor’s rating service. Such an improvement allows Hillsborough to receive favorable financial terms, and as such is a savings to all residents of Hillsborough.
In these competitive economic times, it is comforting to know that we have municipal officials safeguarding our tax dollars. It is no wonder why Hillsborough has one again been listed by Money Magazine as one of the best towns to live in all of America. I look forward to voting for Deputy Mayor Greg Burchette and Committeeman Carl Suraci in November.
