16TH DISTRICT: All should support campaign contribution transparency

Andrew Zwicker, South Brunswick
Every person, regardless of party affiliation should be in support of increased campaign contribution transparency, improvements to lobbying and ethics laws, and ways to make sure that every single one of us is represented in the political process.
I applaud David Goodman, the head of the Central New Jersey chapter of Represent Us for all of the work he is doing on this critical issue. It is so disheartening that my opponent in the upcoming election for the New Jersey General Assembly, Jack Ciattarelli, would go out of his way to attack Mr. Goodman for his efforts on behalf of all New Jerseyans. (Princeton Packet, Oct. 23). Mr. Ciattarelli’s reaction, however, is not surprising after you look at the public records of contributions to his campaign. His last report, filed earlier this month, had more than 70 percent of his contributions from special interests.
Mr. Ciattarelli and his running mate, Donna Simon, are running a negative campaign using 10-year-old photos and distorted facts. Maybe that is because they have nothing positive to run on. They have supported Gov. Chris Christie’s failed policies leading to a struggling economy, cuts in women’s healthcare, cuts in education, and a weakening of our gun safety laws. It’s time to put evidence in front of partisanship and do everything we can to ensure that each of us has a voice in Trenton.
