When will unnecessary construction signs be removed?

When will unnecessary road repair signs be removed? Within a few weeks after the job is done? A few years? Never?
I’m curious because near the front of Nassau Hall on the south side of Nassau Street (state Route 27) there is an orange sign that says “Road Work Next 9 Miles.” It’s been there a long time. A few yards further along is a sign that says “Road Work 1 Mile.” A few blocks farther on: “Road Work ½ Mile.” Then just before Harrison Street: “Road Work 1,500 Feet.” Finally, just before Cedar Lane the sign says: “Give Us a Brake, Slow Down.”
It’s obvious from the condition of the road from about Snowden Lane on to Kingston that it’s been repaved recently. So why are the signs still there? To many people they’re unsightly as well as unnecessary.
But what about the rest of the nine miles? It’s taken you less than three miles from the first sign to get to Kingston. The rest of the nine miles is all in Somerset County and the road shows signs of recent repair patches here and there, but no ongoing “road work.” Nine miles from the first sign takes you to the center of Kendall Park. It’s nice to know the road is in good shape, but you’re done with the signs, take them down.
And, by the way, will Princeton live with the county renaming Washington Road, Washington Street? That’s what the new sign calls it at the corner of Nassau and Washington. It’s still Washington Road at the other intersections. By what authority can the county make such a change just because they installed a new sign? Maybe Nassau Street will now become Main Street.
