TRENTON: Man charged with robbing Princeton bank rejects plea deal

By Philip Sean Curran, Staff Writer
The felon charged with robbing a bank in Princeton likely will stand trial after rejecting a prosecutor’s plea offer calling for a 10-year-prison sentence.
Wesley Gugliuzza, 29, appeared in court briefly on Monday before Mercer County Superior Court Judge Pedro J. Jimenez Jr., sitting in Trenton, for a status conference on his case. He is charged with second-degree robbery and fourth-degree tampering with evidence in the alleged hold up of a TD Bank on State Road on Sept.15, 2014.
Assistant Mercer County Prosecutor Tim Ward, speaking outside the courtroom, called it “more likely than not” that Mr. Gugliuzza will go on trial. To avoid that outcome, he will have until now and his next court date, Jan.11, to change his mind and reach some kind of plea deal with authorities.
He remains held in Northern State Prison, in Newark, serving a prison sentence for offenses unrelated to the bank robbery.
