CENTRAL JERSEY: Lawmakers focus on value of early childhood education

HAMILTON – Senate President Steve Sweeney on Friday visited the Lakeview Child Center in Hamilton to focus on the value of child care as an important component of early child´hood education.
Along with Assemblyman Wayne DeAngelo and Mercer County Freeholder John Cimino, he toured the center and met with the administrators and caregivers at the facility that pro´vides Pre-K and child care.
The visit is part of the “New Jersey: Investing In You” initiative, a multi-part effort to devel´op plans to invest in key areas to promote economic growth and opportunity.
“The benefit of a place like this that provides child care as well as Pre-K education is that parents can drop their kids off knowing they are cared for in a safe and nurturing environ´ment,” said Senator Sweeney. “We can’t forget that a parent’s first priority is the well being of their children. How can we expect parents to hold down one, and in some cases, multi´ple jobs, if they have no place for their children to be during the day?”
The Lakeview Child Center is one of five facilities operated by the Robert Wood Johnson Health Care Corporation Hamilton. Lakeview provides child care with convenient hours to accommodate working parents. Since the opening of its first location in 1985, the center has steadily grown and expanded. In addition to the Lakeview Child Center, the RWJ Health Care Corp Hamilton is affiliated with the Robert Wood Johnson Health System, with acute care hospitals in Hamilton, Rahway and Somerset, the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Med´ical School, and the Children’s Specialized Hospital.
