HILLSBOROUGH: Library board seeks applicants to help it deliver its mission

The Hillsborough Public Library Advisory Board is seeking applications from interested residents who wish to join in advising the library system about services and resources to help its patrons expand their knowledge and talents, make informed decisions, enrich their leisure hours and enhance their daily lives.
The board’s objectives are to:
– Provide a channel of communication between the Hillsborough Library patrons and the library, the Hillsborough Township Committee and the Somerset County Library System;
 — Advise the branch director regarding the library’s operations, policies, and activities;
 — Represent the community of Hillsborough Township in advocating continued development and enhancement of quality library services;
– Provide a forum for public discussion of the community’s changing needs for library services;
– Foster cooperation with other interested organizations to build community support for the library;
– Manage and approve expenditures from funds collected from fines and contributions, and
– Plan and manage actions benefiting the library such as fund-raising campaigns and other special projects.
Recent activities of the Hillsborough Public Library Advisory Board include Hillsborough’s first TEDx event, a children’s book festival with 25 authors, staff appreciation events and the library’s 40th birthday commemoration. With funds raised and collected, the board has provided supplemental programming and purchased furniture, flooring and painting. Recent programming includes the Antiques Roadshow event, concerts by the Seasons, and Zumba.
The board seeks an array of talents to assist in its mission. Fundraising and/or accounting skills are particularly needed at this time, but the major requirement is enthusiasm for the library. If interested, go to www.somerset.lib.nj.us/PDFs/HLadvisoryboard.pdf for an application form. Forms are also available at our display near the Circulation Desk of the Library.
