It’s that time of year. Chanukah begins the evening of Sunday, Dec. 6 and ends the night of Monday, Dec. 14.
The Beth El Seniors Chanukah meeting, with the inimitable Cantor Larry, is Thursday, Dec. 10, at 1 p.m. Bring a gift and take part in the annual Bring One/Take One exchange.
The Israel Bonds Breakfast on Sunday, Dec. 20, honors Nancy and Howard Alter for their work in support of Beth El. The breakfast starts at 9:45 a.m.
The 4th Annual Upside Down Congressional Shabbat Dinner is Friday, Dec. 4, at 5:45 p.m. Services follow at 7 p.m. Call for reservations. Adults $12, children under 12 just $8.
“A Moment in Time,” an original play by Beth El member Jeffrey Milstein, debuts at the synagogue on Saturday, Dec. 5 and Dec.19 at 8 p.m. and on Sunday, Dec. 6 and Dec. 20, at 2 p.m. The show is a dramady betweeen fathers, son, daughters, wife and husbands. General Admission is $30.
What are you doing Christmas Eve? The Werner Lecture Fund and the Beth El Men’s Club will present its annual Comedy and Chinese dinner at 6:30 p.m. Food prepared by the Essen and Fressen club.
The Werner Lecture Fund has several other events in December including Jewish Folk Music with Larry Wolfert on the Dec. 10 and making Tuscan Soup for the Kosher Cafes on the Dec. 15.
How do you do volunteer work in Israel? You can find out on Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 7:30 p.m. William Clark Cate, Jr, will share his experiences as a volunteer to the Israeli Defense Force. In the past five years, more than 5,000 people of all ages and nationality have saved Israel in work hours and salary.
If you’re looking to find out about your relatives from Germany and Prussia you’ll want to come to the Beth El Genealogy Club meeting on Sunday, Dec. 20, at 7:30 p.m. Roger Lustig will go through various databases and discuss other types of sources that can help in your search. Lustig is coordinator of the German Special Interst Group at JewishGen.Org.
Torah and Teas with the Rabbi are on Dec. 7, 14 and 21. Classes meet on Mondays, from 1:30 to 2:45 p.m.
