PENNINGTON — Now that negotiations of a collective bargaining agreement between the borough and the Police Association have been completed, the next step is for the Borough Council to approve the deal.
The council will likely vote on the matter at its upcoming meeting on Dec. 14.
The agreement establishes salaries and other conditions of employment for police officers through 2020. A salary guide from the collective bargaining agreement contract lists annual salaries police officers will receive from year to year, depending on rank and class.
A new police office hired out of the academy in 2016 would receive a base salary of $30,600 per year. Base salary for a new academy hire in 2020, the last year of the contract, is listed as $32,486.
The scheduled salary for a senior patrolman in 2016 is $71,899, while in 2020 it increases to $81,485.Sergeants will receive $76,899 in 2016 and $86,485 in 2020. The salary for a sergeant first class in 2016 is listed as $83,693, and for 2020 it is $94,333.
Additional compensation depends of the education level a police officer achieved (associate’s or bachelor’s degree), emergency medical technician training received and other factors.
“I think we’re going to save some money on overtime,” Mayor Anthony Persichilli said earlier this month about an aspect of the contract that would benefit taxpayers.
Councilman Glen Griffiths said, “I think it’s great for the (police) department. Great for the borough.”
A copy of the 35-page collective bargaining agreement is available for inspection at the office of the clerk in Pennington Borough Hall.
