Joe Tringali of Manalapan has been appointed to fill a vacant seat on the Manalapan Englishtown Regional School District Board of Education.

Veronica Wolf, the district’s business administrator and board secretary, administered the oath of office to Tringali at a recent board meeting. Tringali took a seat that was previously held by Martin Spindel, who resigned from the board in August.

The seat Tringali, 42, now holds will be on the November 2016 ballot as a one-year term. There will also be three three-year terms on next year’s ballot, Wolf said.

Board President Dotty Porcaro said, “I have known Joe for quite a few years and I know he will give his heart and soul toward his board position.”

Tringali has been married for 22 years and has three children who went through the district. He previously held positions as the treasurer of the Pine Brook School PTA and vice president and treasurer of the Englishtown Manalapan First Aid Squad.

“I truly enjoy helping people and getting involved in our community in any way I can,” he said. “Being on the board is something I feel very privileged to be a part of and knowing that I can make a difference for our schools and most importantly our children.

“I am looking forward to tackling many of the problems facing our schools and children today, but most important is safety. Without safety, we have nothing,” Tringali said.

Porcaro said the board advertised the opening and interviewed nine people on Oct. 6. The members selected Tringali to fill the seat.

Wolf said that in addition to Tringali, the Manalapan residents who were interviewed by the board were Maria Mallamaci, Gregory Berke, Edward Fisher, Janine Provine Greco, Kenneth Portnoy, Elaine Milano, Dawn Colucci and Melissa Gonzalez.

The nine-member board is made up of eight residents of Manalapan and one resident of Englishtown. School board members serve without compensation.
