HILLSBOROUGH: Recent college graduate dies in Route 287 accident

A 23-year-old Hillsborough man was one of three people killed in an auto accident late Saturday night in the northbound lanes of Interstate 287 in Bernards Township. At least 11 others were injured.
State Police detectives said they have determined that Troy Chase, 43, of Pittston, Maine, stopped on the northbound right shoulder in the area of milepost 29.1 to repair a cattle trailer he was towing with a 2003 Dodge Ram truck.
At 10:32 p.m., driver Ravi Naik, 23, of Hillsborough struck the cattle trailer, on the right shoulder, with his 2013 Hyundai Elantra. Police said Mr. Naik parked on the shoulder and got out of his vehicle.
Along came a 2003 Ford van, driven by Xu Feng Ma, with 12 passengers. The van traveled onto the right shoulder, hit the guardrail, the cattle trailer and then the Dodge truck. The van continued northbound on the right shoulder and hit pedestrian Naik before traveling across the northbound lanes and striking the left guardrail.
As a result of this crash, Mr. Naik was pronounced deceased at 11:35 p.m. at Morristown Medical Center.
Mr. Chase sustained minor injuries and was transported to Overlook Medical Center.
Two passengers in the van were pronounced deceased at the scene on Sunday at 1:40 a.m. State Police hadn’t identified them publicly as of Monday morning.
Police said these passengers in the Ford van sustained non-life-threatening injuries:
• Xu Feng Ma, who was transported to Morristown Medical Center, as were Hwa Chieng, 64, of Flushing, N.Y.; Tao Qing Wu, 59, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Duong Quoc, 54, of Brooklyn, N.Y.
