Holiday spirit will take stage

MILLSTONE — ’Tis the season at the Millstone Performing Arts Center (MPAC), so if you are ready for some jolly holiday fun, save the date.

Gina Whalen, managing director of the MPAC and community education director, announced that “Deck The Halls,” a holiday concert, will be performed at the MPAC, 5 Dawson Court, at 7 p.m. Dec. 5.

“It is going to be a great show, mixing traditional holiday music with some new contemporary songs,” Whalen said. “We even plan on doing a sing-along at the end.”

Whalen believes the community will be revved up for this year’s holiday revue, if the past is any indication. Two years ago a show titled “Gift Wrapped” was well received.

“People kept asking if we would do another one,” Whalen said. “Last year we were unable to make it happen, but this year we are back. We have many amazing singers on board for this. Some are from (local theaters), as well as a few pros from NYC.”

Although Whalen is used to wearing many hats when it comes to local performances, she may be using even more elbow grease on this show than usual. She is directing and producing the show, and singing in it as well.

Whalen said the show will capture the spirit of Hanukkah and Christmas. Highlights will include “The Grinch Who Stole Christmas,” a scene from “A Christmas Story” and a rendition of “Light One Candle,” a Hanukkah song that became well known after it was released by folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary

Children from Millstone, Manalapan, Colts Neck and Holmdel are participating in the show. The youths range from second grade through seniors in high school.

Emily Wright and Lisamarie Cappuzzo are the stage managers and Amy Fredericks is the musical director.

“The holiday show is always special because we try to tap into the spirit of the season,” Whalen said. “As much work as it is to mount a production like this, I am always filled with the holiday spirit afterward. It is a great way to share some holiday cheer with loved ones. We are hoping to fill the seats, as always.”

Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for senior citizens and children. Tickets are available at www.millstoneperformingarts.com.
