Metuchen High PTO event promotes health and wellness

 Boy Scout Troop 66 of Edison helped out The Hands of Hope with more than 2,000 pounds of food and more than 300 turkeys on Nov. 21. Boy Scout Troop 66 of Edison helped out The Hands of Hope with more than 2,000 pounds of food and more than 300 turkeys on Nov. 21. Metuchen High School served as the host to a Health and Wellness Fair that was sponsored by the PTO.

PTO President Audrey Hausser said, “Health mindfulness is critical to raising healthy children and especially at the high school level when our students are working hard in school and in extracurricular activities. We wanted to have an opportunity to bring awareness to a variety of health related issues.”

Metuchen resident and Master of Ceremonies for the evening, Mirjana Novkovic, helped support the Oct. 27 event,

Among the organizations represented at the event included The Blue Wave, cofounded by Alexis Ritter Gubbay. The organization aims to raise awareness of male breast cancer.

The organization was started in honor of Mrs. Gubbay’s husband, Judah Gubbay who was 43 when his 13-year fight ended. The organization works to fight a misconception that breast cancer is only a woman’s disease. Also participating in the event was Jan Grayzel of Custom Wellness by Jan. 9Round kickboxing owner Jessica De- Pasquale and trainer Letitia Huffman did a few rounds with gloves on.

Nick Zaneto food service director for Pomptonian and Patty Baxter thanked the MHS PTO for inviting Pomptonian Food Service to participate in the Wellness Fair.

Hausser said the PTO has even bigger goals next year. “We hope to get more students involved in helping us decide what organizations to bring to next year’s event, because it’s important that students feel part of the process with regard to such an important issue.
