LAWRENCE: Man injured in car fire on Christmas Day

LAWRENCE — A 35-year-old man was burned Christmas Day when his car caught fire on the Trenton Freeway (Route 1) South near Whitehead Road, according to the Lawrence Township Police Department.
Richard Silverstein, 35, of Kendall Park, suffered burns to his face, arms and torso in the car fire, which was reported at 6:26 p.m., police said.
When officers arrived, they found Mr. Silverstein’s 2004 Honda CRV on the curb, fully engulfed in flames. Mr. Silverstein, who was the sole occupant, was found outside the car.
The car fire was extinguished by the Slackwood Fire Co. and the Lawrence Road Fire Co.
Mr. Silvestein was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton and then transferred to Temple University Hospital Burn Center in Philadelphia.
The cause of the car fire is under investigation by Officer John Stever, Detective Todd Caruso and Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Marc Masseroni.
