Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden has announced the graduation of 14 recruits from the 28th Basic Course for County Corrections Officers. The graduation, held at the Monmouth County Police Academy, Freehold Township, followed the completion of a 13-week curriculum that prepares recruits for careers as corrections professionals, according to a press release.
“It takes courage, commitment and compassion to have a career in law enforcement,” Golden said. “As these corrections professionals join the ranks of dedicated men and women, those values will guide them in safeguarding lives and property and preserving peace in a correctional environment.”
Of the 14 recruits, seven will serve at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution (MCCI), Freehold Township, which is nationally accredited in corrections and correctional healthcare and houses up to 1,328 inmates. Seven will serve at the Union County Department of Corrections.
Training for the Basic Course for County Corrections Officers is coordinated by Staff Sgt. Byron Jones of the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division.
Throughout the 13 weeks, the corrections officers engaged in physical training and drills, and learned how to properly use firearms, batons, handcuffing techniques and mechanical restraints, according to the press release.
They were also trained in unarmed selfdefense and emergency medical response training. Classroom instruction included topics on law enforcement and ethics, stress management, contraband and evidence processing, characteristics of inmates, and drug interdiction and identification.
Ryan C. Dill, MCCI, of Howell, was presented with the academic award, and Matthew L. Colonna of Hazlet, MCCI, was presented with the marksmanship, physical training and merit awards.
Graduates of the 28th Basic Course for County Corrections Officers are Steven A. Barbosa, Union County Department of Corrections; Richard J. Blanch, Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division; Benedetto Cancemi, Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division.
And, David M. Carmack, Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division; Matthew L. Colonna, Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division; Ignacio Cruz, Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division; Ryan C. Dill, Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office Corrections Division; Jillian E. Iazzetta, Union County Department of Corrections; Ulises B. Infante, Union County Department of Corrections.
Also, Jasmine N. Norris, Union County Department of Corrections; Francis X. Passarelli Jr., Union County Department of Corrections; Edwidch Seme Jr., Union County Department of Corrections; Charles R.
