New Egypt resident in Washington, D.C., for summer page program with Congress

PLUMSTED — Jennie Wysong of the New Egypt section of Plumsted was welcomed to Washington, D.C., by Congress-man Chris Smith (R-Hamilton). Wysong was chosen by the House of Representa-tives Page Board to participate in its Summer Page Program after being nominated for the position by Smith.

"In addition to her impressive resume in school and a number of extracurricular activities, Jennie possesses a strong desire to learn more about the workings of Congress, which she will see firsthand as a House Page," Smith said. "She will work hard and learn a great deal about the workings of Congress as she proudly represents Plumsted Township, New Egypt High School and all of the Fourth District this summer on Capitol Hill."

Of her new position, Wysong said, "I’m looking forward to this experience, witnessing our government in action, meeting people and making new friends."

Wysong is going into her senior year at New Egypt High School where she plays trumpet in the marching band, is a member of the school choir, plays varsity field hockey, basketball and lacrosse, and is a member of the National Honor Society. She also plays the piano at her church, the New Egypt United Methodist Church.

Pages serve primarily as messengers delivering legislative material between the various Congressional office buildings on Capitol Hill.

They also work on the floor of the House providing administrative assistance to members of Congress.

To qualify for a page nomination, applicants must be at least 16 years of age at the time their appointment begins, be a junior in high school and have a cumulative grade point average of "B" or better in major courses.
