Brush, leaf collection to be separate

MARLBORO — Brush and leaves will be collected separately at the curbside of Marlboro properties, according to a new policy passed by the Township Council.

The resolution was passed unanimously in an effort to improve the overall appearance of the township, maintain levels of service, and keep streets safe and clear.

Individual leaf and brush collection dates will be available to residents when they receive their township calendar in December, according to Lynn Franco, the confidential aide to Mayor Jonathan Hornik.

Residents will also be able to view the information on the township website.

According to the policy, brush and tree limbs placed for curbside collection cannot exceed 6 feet in length or 4 inches in diameter, and may not exceed 50 pounds.

Leaves must be placed in the street or put in 100 percent biodegradable and recyclable paper bags.

The curbside collection of brush, leaves and tree cuttings cannot include tree stumps, lumber, plywood, fence posts, railroad ties, furniture or other manufactured wood products.

Brush, leaves and tree cuttings may not be placed in the street so as to cause a safety hazard or to interfere with the ability of vehicles or pedestrians to safely use or travel on the street. The materials may not be placed on any adjoining property without permission of the property owner.
