Park system offers
summer classes, trips
The Monmouth County Park System is offering several classes and activities during the summer.
"Meditation for Relaxation and Restfulness," a one-session class for ages 8 and up, will be held July 18, 1:30-3:30 p.. at the Dorbrook Visitor Center, Route 537, Colts Neck. The cost is $25.
The park system is sponsoring a trip to Cape Cod July 20-23. The package includes lodging, one lunch and dinner, tours, ferry passage, whale watch, motor coach, and a park system leader. The per-person rates are $555 for single occupancy, $455 for double, $410 for triple, and $395 for quad; a children’s rate is also available.
"My Place in Time and Space," a one-week "how to journal" camp for children entering grade four and up, will be held July 19-23, 12:30-2:30 p.m., at Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park, Long Branch. Campers will begin a writing/drawing journal. The fee is $90.
A one-week camp to teach knitting, crocheting and/or cross-stitch will be offered July 19-23, 2-5 p.m., at the Thompson Park Craft Center, Newman Springs Road, Lincroft. The fee is $175 plus a $25 materials fee.
"Yoga at the Shore" offers participants a scenic oceanfront location — Seven Presidents Oceanfront Park — as they learn posture, breathing and relaxation. Classes will be held Mondays and Wednesdays, July 19-Aug. 18, from 8:30-9:30 a.m. and again from 9:45-10:45 a.m. The fee is $70 per person.
"Can-U-Canoe" will teach participants (age 8 and up; under 17 with parent) basic water safety and paddling strokes. The class will be held July 20 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Marlu Lake in Thompson Park, Lincroft. The fee is $12.
One-day craft classes for adults will be held at Thompson Park: "Card-making," recycling old paper/craft items into new greeting cards, July 22, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. (fee is $23); "Bath and Body Luxuries," homemade bath/body products, July 24, 9-11 a.m. (fee is $21); and "Easy Painting Techniques," focusing on blending, shading and highlighting skills, July 24, noon-3 p.m. (fee is $20).
"Knitting 101 and Beyond," for both beginners and advanced students, will be offered July 24-Aug. 28, 10 a.m.-noon, at Thompson Park. The fee is $66.
"Paddle Your Day Away Canoe Trip: Cedar Creek," an eight-mile canoe trip from Double Trouble Park to West Boulevard (ages 8 and up; under 17 with parent), will take place July 25. Meet at Thompson Park at 7:30 a.m. The fee is $32; all equipment will be provided. Preregistration is required for all activities.
