Freehold’s Cat Manzi, the leading harness driver in North America, brought his 2005 win total to 200 on March 24 when he drove six winners at Freehold Raceway. Manzi started his day winning both ends of the daily double with Saucy Score and Exotic Moves. The 54-year-old reinsman also won with Tattoo Hall, Aranover A, Big Bad Girl and Topville Muscleman.

Manzi’s 200 wins are 28 more than runner-up Mark MacDonald.

Already a 16-time driving champion at Freehold, Manzi, a Hall of Famer, holds an insurmountable lead at the current meeting that ends May 28.

Morganville’s Kara Rafael won four gold medals at the I.S.I. Figure Skating Competition held at Montclair Inside Edge. Rafael, who is a sixth-grader at the Marlboro Middle School, participated in five events at the competition.

Rafael is coached by Andrea Crissdo. Her next competition will be this weekend at the Mennen Sports Arena in Morris Township.

Marlboro Blaze, a 12U Premier travel baseball team, is looking for two strong players to round out its all-star roster. The Blaze will be playing in Cooperstown Baseball World, N.Y., tournament and in the Cal Ripken Stadium Tournament in Maryland this summer. Prior travel team experience is preferred and pitching experience is a plus. There is no residency requirement.

UK Elite Soccer and the Manalapan Soccer Club have gotten together to announce a Petite Soccer Program for 3-, 4- and 5-year-olds. This unique program will be held at the Manalapan Recreation Center beginning April 20 and 22. The Monmouth County Park System will host a Mountain Bike Ride through the Manasquan Reservoir, Georgia Tavern Road, Howell, April 10 from 10 a.m. to noon. Instructors will lead bikers with little or no off-road experience along the 5-mile gravel perimeter road. Required equipment includes a safety-certified helmet and a mountain bike in good working order with hand brakes and 12 or more speeds. Cost of the bike ride is $5 per person. The park system is offering Flag Football at the Dorbrook Park Recreation Area, Route 537, Colt Neck. The program is designed for children ages 7-12. Participants will learn skills such as passing, receiving and positions, as well as the rules of the game. The season will end with a noncontact game of flag football.

The schedule is as follows: Level I (ages 7-9), Wednesdays, April 13 to May 11, 4-5 p.m.; Fridays, April 15 to May 13, 4-5 p.m. and Saturdays, April 16 to May 14, 1-2 p.m. Level II (ages 10-12), Wednesdays, April 13 to May 11, 5-6 p.m., Fridays, April 15 to May 13, 5-6 p.m. and Saturdays, April 16 to May 14, 2:15-3:15 p.m.

The park system is inviting youngsters ages 8-10 to participate in Junior Hoopsters at the Dorbrook Recreation Area. The program will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Mondays, from April 11 to May 16. An additional session will be offered on April 16 from 11 a.m. to noon. Classes will use age-appropriate games and drills to perfect fundamental skills and teach offensive and defensive strategies. Participants will develop techniques that will improve their games. Prior basketball experience is suggested. Cost of each session is $42 per person. The New Jersey Jackals, who play in the Independent Can-Am League, are welcoming baseball players with college or professional experience to try out for the 2005 Jackals. The open tryout will be May 10 from 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Yogi Berra Stadium on the campus of Montclair State University. There is a $25 fee to participate in the tryout; players are required to bring all necessary equipment.
