Woman injured in one-car Route 9 crash

FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP — A Manalapan woman remained in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, on Tues-day, one week after she was involved in a one-car accident on Route 9.

According to police, at about 11:45 a.m. Feb. 12 Gautami Das, 49, lost control of her car and struck a utility pole. Police said Das was traveling south on Route 9 driving a two-door Acura when the car left the road at the Freehold Mall jughandle and struck a utility pole.

Das was transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center and was initially listed in critical condition.

She remained in critical condition for several days.

As of Tuesday morning, her condition had been upgraded to satisfactory, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Police Officer William Gallo was the first to arrive at the scene, followed by volunteers from the East Freehold Fire Department and the Freehold First Aid and Emergency Squad, and Freehold Township Detectives James McNamara and Troy Braxton.
