MANALAPAN — The township engineer has updated members of the Town-ship Committee on two pending road improvement projects.
Township Engineer Greg Valesi said the projects will be undertaken by Monmouth County at the intersection of Tennent Road and Route 522 (Freehold-Englishtown Road), and at the intersection of Tennent Road and Taylors Mills Road.
Valesi said he spoke with Kevin Nugent, principal engineer, roads, of the Monmouth County Division of Engineer-ing, and was told that the Tennent Road-Route 522 project is in the final design stage.
However, he noted that there are eight to nine properties which will need to be acquired by the county. Although that acquisition process is under way, it will probably take at least one year before that stage of the process is complete, he said.
"Even though it’s under way, it has been under way for a long time," Valesi said. "Unfortunately, you’re probably looking at about eight months before that project moves forward."
The news is different a couple of miles down Tennent Road, where it intersects with Taylors Mills Road. A construction contract has been awarded for improvements at that location and a preconstruction meeting is expected to be scheduled, he reported.
"You should see some activity as soon as the weather improves," he said.
