Brick better off with upscale renovation of Traders’ Cove

As a longtime resident of Brick Township, I have often wondered why the main route to our beautiful beach areas has been so shoddy and rundown.

When I learned a developer wanted to turn a long-neglected marina at Traders’ Cove on Mantoloking Road into an upscale condominium complex with a restaurant and marina, like Brielle has at Brielle Landing or Point Pleasant has at Clark’s Landing, I was very pleased.

I believe this project will do for the eastern part of town what the renovation of Brick Plaza has done for the center of town.

Once the rundown plaza was renovated, other merchants were anxious to come in with their own renovations, upgraded facades, landscaping and a much more pleasant shopping experience. Some may complain that this has brought more traffic.

True, this is the place everybody wants to come for a variety of shopping and new restaurant choices! Were we better off when the plaza was dumpy and nobody wanted to shop here?

Would it be a terrible thing if the development of fancy condominiums, a renovated marina with public access and a nice restaurant would make more people want to travel to the Mantoloking Road area?

I think some of the rundown properties on Mantoloking Road would be similarly inspired to their own upgrades.
