Art and garden tour in Edison and Metuchen

Five residential garden retreats in Edison andMetuchen will be open to the public 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 19 for “Art in the Garden Tour 3,” sponsored by the Edison Arts Society.

Each of the five gardens showcase different styles. This year’s focus is on the wrap-around garden, with the space in the front of the home landscaped and inviting the visitor to enter the back. Each garden site will include live music, poetry created about specific gardens, and an exhibit of visual art.

While young artists have always been included in the project, “Tour 3” will strengthen that collaboration, featuring a “Rock Garden” hosting several teen bands, and “Living Sculptures,” the creation of a group of students who have spent the months before the event developing sculptural personas.

Arts society members will serve as hosts in each garden. Present to answer horticultural questions will be New York City master gardener KevaMiles. Birding expert Colleen Snow, owner of Wild Bird Country in Tano Mall, Edison, will be on hand to discuss attracting birds to a garden. The project again this year is underwritten by Americana Hospitality Group.

Tickets purchased in advance are $20 and cover admission to all five gardens plus refreshments. Tickets purchased at the door will be $25. Tickets may be ordered by mail from: the Edison Arts Society, 340 Raritan Center Parkway, Edison, NJ 08837, or purchased at Wild Bird Country, Edison, and the Brass Lantern, Main Street, Metuchen.
