WEST WINDSOR: 2009 Girls Volleyball Previews

West Windsor-Plainsboro North
Head Coach: Erich Trautwein, third year
   Last year: 6-14.
Key returning players: Kathryn Davis (Sr.), Julia Duprat (Sr.), Kristen Geevers (Sr.), Lucy Xu (Sr.).
Top newcomers: Sabrina Jugo (Jr.), Anushka Prabhu (Jr.), Ami Sawhney (So.).
Coach’s Thoughts: This season we should do a little better, but we have to re-invent the wheel by trying to keep things simple, and get back to fundamentals. Many of the players don’t play in the offseason, and we have to almost start from scratch. It’s been a little difficult for the girls to adjust to a new system, but I feel that in the long run it will pay dividends. I expect our team to be competitive, but we are a long way from being an elite team which is where I want us to be in the next few years.

West Windsor-Plainsboro South

Head Coach: Michael Adams, eighth year
   Last year: 15-5
Key returning players: Alex Thumm (Sr.), Lea Williams (Sr.), Rachael Degnan (Jr.), Amy Greenberger (Jr.), Hannah Jin (Jr.), Devon Ngai (Jr.).
Top newcomers: Vera Shulgina (Jr.), Melissa Lichtman (Jr.), Sasha Malinina (So.).
Coach’s Thoughts: We should be very competitive this year. We have lots of returning players and the new starters are doing great. We have a very tough schedule because lots of teams don’t want to play us. The only teams that seem to want to play us are the other top teams in the state. It makes for tough matches all season. We are strong all-around. Expectations for this season are to continue to improve as a team and make another run for the state title. Keys to achieving this will be how well we can serve receive this season. If we can do that effectively, we will be very hard to beat. The goals are to show up to every match ready to play our best every time. We will need to do this since we have such a tough schedule.
