Durand Turner, 33, of Trenton, has been charged with burglary and theft for entering three parked cars on Irwin Place at 1:15 a.m. Oct. 26, according to police reports.
An officer on patrol noticed the interior lights of two cars were “on,” and a bicycle was lying on the ground nearby, police reports said. Stopping to investigate, he noticed that the interiors of the cars had been disturbed.
While he was investigating, the officer noticed one of the doors to a third car being opened. The officer ordered the person out of the car. During the investigation, the officer found that Mr. Turner was in possession of several plastic bags full of coins.
He was taken to the Mercer County Corrections Center on $50,000 bail.
Meanwhile, police are investigating whether Mr. Turner was involved in the burglary and theft of several cars that took place between 3 p.m. Oct. 25 and 5:30 p.m. Oct. 26.
Among the burglaries and thefts is a break-in that occurred on Gedney Road between 3 p.m. Oct. 25 and 11:30 a.m. Oct. 26, in which $10 in change was taken from an unlocked 2002 GMC Envoy parked at the resident’s home.
About $6 in change also was taken from a 2007 Cadillac CTS that was parked in the victim’s driveway on Tiffany Woods Road between 6 p.m. Oct. 25 and 5:30 p.m. Oct. 26. The car was unlocked.
A 2009 Toyota Corolla was entered on Roxboro Road between 8:15 p.m. Oct. 25 and 7:55 a.m. Oct. 26, but nothing was reported missing. The car had been left unlocked in its owner’s driveway.
And a 2005 Honda Odyssey that was parked in the driveway of its owner’s home on Hoover Avenue was entered between 9 p.m. Oct. 25 and 7:59 a.m. Oct. 26. Nothing was reported missing from the minivan, which might have been unlocked.
