In a case of stating the obvious, this Thursday we’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving. Unfortunately, there are many residents in Cranbury and surrounding towns that are in need during the holiday season.
Therefore, on behalf of the Township Committee I want to state our appreciation to the scouts, Skeet’s pantry and all the volunteers for all they have done to help those less fortunate have a great Thanksgiving.
After Thanksgiving, Cranbury will enjoy the Christmas (yes, I wrote Christmas) and holiday season with many family oriented activities happening in town. We received a letter at Town Hall direct from the head Elf at the North Pole informing us that Santa has found Cranbury to be a wonderful town with well-behaved children so he will make a point to make a number of visits to Cranbury over the next four weeks.
On Friday, Dec. 4, the Woman’s Club will host the annual Christmas Tree lighting (yes, a Christmas Tree, not a holiday tree) which is always a good time. Santa will arrive Friday night escorted by his friends from the Fire Company to meet with all of the children. He also told us that he will be staying for the weekend as he needs to make sure his belly is nice and round and there is no better way than to attend the Lions Club pancake breakfast.
On Sunday, Dec. 6, the Lions Club will host its 67th annual pancake breakfast. This has become an institution for the Christmas season. I know more than a few people who come back to visit just to attend the breakfast.
That Sunday afternoon, the Historical Society will hold its Christmas Tea from 1 to 4 p.m. at the museum. When Santa wrote and asked to attend the Tree Lighting, he also sent news that he’d like to make an early trip to Cranbury to deliver gifts to boys and girls in town as a thank you for being so good all year.Santa with help from his friends at the Fire Company will deliver one gift per child (Cranbury residents only) during the weekend of the Dec. 19 and Dec. 20 (parents will be given an approximate drop off time in advance).
For parents interested, gifts can be dropped off at the firehouse on Monday, Nov. 30, between 7 and 9 p.m.; Dec. 4 at the Christmas Tree lighting when Santa first visits; and Monday Dec. 7 and Dec.14 between 7 and 9 p.m.

We also anticipate hosting the Menorah lighting again this year in Memorial Park, which will be on Sunday, Dec. 6. My daughter and I always enjoy this event in particular because it provides me with an opportunity to discuss different cultures in a fun environment.
